In January 2009 a new and exciting phase in the history of the school began. The
school became part of a federation with St Cecilia's Church of England School, Wandsworth
with Jeffrey Risbridger as Executive Headteacher and Niall Gallagher as Headteacher.
There followed a short period of re-organisation and restructuring and some imaginative
refurbishment of key facilities and in September 2009 Blackheath Bluecoat reopened
- “A school reborn” - with a new determination towards academic excellence within
a distinctly Christian ethos. It is now specialist school in Mathematics and Computing
which is offering and resourcing a 21st century curriculum strongly supported by
its federation links. Barnaby Ash took over as headteacher in September 2009.
During the Summer break of 2009 the school library was transformed into the Information
Centre, the Sixth Form Suite was completely transformed, the Staff Room was refurbished
and a completely new I.T. facility was installed. The new facilities were opened
at special ceremony on 23rd September by Vice Admiral Timothy Lawrence, Chief Executive
of Defence Estates and husband of HRH the Princess Royal.
