The girls had a delightful time paddling, bathing, and exploring the shore, and in addition they had some enjoyable excursions and picnic in the surrounding country. All returned in splendid health, brown and happy. The Committee feel that such a holiday not only benefits the children in health but also develops originality and resource, as the unconventionality and freedom from restraint of the life on the house boat, combined with the occasional necessity of making the best of small hardships and adapting themselves to new circumstances, must help to develop in the children qualities which it is difficult to bring out in the well-ordered life in the school

The IONIA House Boat was lent to the school by the Committee of the Greenwich Girls’ Home.
